I was really interested in science and epistemology and empiricism. And I was really interested in seeing how that there were some really anti science movements that were quite popular. And there was this institution out in Seattle called the Discovery Institute that was pushing very hard to get the pseudoscience called intelligent design creationism placed in schools. It was really blew me away that there was this coordinated campaign to fight against basic, established, more sort of well supported scientific principles, because generally, I feel very grateful to live in a time in which there's a lot more technology and science, because I understood it could have been possible.

So, yeah, it was very strange to me that people would always reject scientific principles and the principles of skepticism in favor of these bizarre fantasies. Why do some people believe, as is the case with, like, young earth creationists, that they believe that the world is 10,000 years old, which is not just a little wrong, it's absurdly wrong, and it's wrong in a million different ways. And, you know, that ties into, you know, sort of sociological, psychological, sort of phenomenon. And so that's what sort of my base interest, and I guess my. My more specific interest in QAnon came when, I started noticing. I was.

Travis View: I was kind of aware of QAnon as a phenomenon in early 2018. But, you know, I kind of dismissed that as a weird chan thing. You know, it's just one of those things that, you know, people get really into. Wasn't really that worth paying attention to. But what caused me to change my mind was that I noticed a tweet from Charlie Kirk, who is a fairly mainstream conservative commentator. He's met with Trump. He speaks on campuses all over the country. He appears on Fox News fairly regularly. Well, he, Charlie Kirk, he tweeted this tweet that contains a lot of bogus statistics about human trafficking, implying that Trump was doing a much better job of fighting human trafficking than Obama ever was.

Travis View: And I knew right away that was bogus because the Department of Justice, they take years to release their statistics about the federal arrests and stuff. So I tried to trace the origin of this claim, and I figured out that basically it came from a spreadsheet that was compiled on the Q research board on eight Chan. And so there was like, there was this path from, basically from, you know, the bizarre fringes of conspiracism on eight Chan, all the way to Charlie Kirk's Twitter account and his hundreds of thousands of followers on his verified account. And that made me realize that, oh, this is not something that is just staying in the bowels of the Internet. This is something that seems to being picked up by mainstream social media figures and is being pushed onto mainstream social media networks in a significant way.

The Q team are handling it behind the scenes. You just need to sit back and grab your popcorn, watch the show as Q drops often said. But I thought, man, this can't last forever. But Q is different because it said that, no, actually, this cabal that you hate so much is going to be defeated by you sitting at your computer, posting memes and being involved and connecting with other like minded QAnon followers. There's this belief that you can, in fact, even though you feel very powerless, you can defeat this cabal that you believe that is.

It was obviously, it was this confidence that they could, in fact, make this big revolutionary change. And even though. Even though it instilled these people who were otherwise, again, feel very despairing about the state of politics and how much power they have and made them feel empowered.
